Secret Squirrel
What Does Secret Squirrel Mean?
In prepping and survival, it means to slowly build up your level of preparedness over time, without making it obvious.
For example, purchasing one case of bottled water per month looks fairly normal and will go unnoticed. Purchasing ten cases in one go looks unusual and will be noticed.
The same goes for canned and long shelf life food. A few cans here and there, as part of the weekly shop, will go unnoticed but purchasing several crates of cans at once looks very much like stocking up for an emergency.
The concept is pretty similar to being the grey man.
Secret Squirrel In The Military
In the US military the phrase refers to a person on a classified mission or classified activity. The “secret squirrel” is not allowed to disclose the details of their mission. General classified activity is often referred to as “secret squirrel stuff”.
It’s an easy way of saying “Yes I’m up to something. No you can’t ask what.”
The Secret Squirrel Cartoon Show
The Hanna-Barbera studio created a cartoon show called Secret Squirrel in 1965 and it’s likely that this is where the phrase came from. Check out the intro on YouTube.
